BITS Pilani: An Overview

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is an all India Institution declared as Deemed to be University under Section-3 of the UGC Act. Admissions to all the Integrated First Degree programmes of BITS, Pilani, at Pilani Campus, Goa Campus, and Hyderabad Campus for the academic year-2018 will be made on the basis of a Computer Based Online Test conducted by BITS, Pilani.

Birla Institute of Technology Science Admission Test (BITSAT)-2018

This test will be referred to as ‘BITS Admission Test – 2018’, in abbreviation as BITSAT-2018 ‘Computer Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate answers the questions on the computer through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil based test.

Each day the exam will be conducted in two slots. The first slot will be from 9.00 am till 12.00 noon and the second slot will be from 2.00 pm till 5.00 pm. A candidate can choose anyone out of these two slots based on the availability.

BITSAT Eligibility Criteria 2018

The eligibility criteria of BITSAT 2018 include the eligibility conditions needed to be fulfilled by the aspiring candidates in order to be considered eligible for the entrance test. BITSAT 2018 eligibility criteria gives specific information related to qualifying marks, qualifying exam, subject combination, total number of attempts, age, etc. See complete details below.

• Candidates passed class 12 or equivalent examination (from any state/central board). However, they have to score 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying exam. Also, in each of the 3 subjects, they must also secure 60% marks separately.
• Aspiring candidates should also have proficiency in English to be able to appear in BITSAT 2018.
• Candidates who have appeared in class 12th in 2018 or 2017 would be considered eligible for BITSAT 2018.
• Candidates with Rank 1 in state or central boards in India will be offered seats of their choice, despite their rank/score in BITSAT 2018. However, these candidates should meet the all eligibility conditions mentioned above.

BITSAT Exam Pattern 2018

  • BITSAT 2018 will have 4 sections – Part I, Part II, Part III and Part IV
  • Physics and Chemistry sections have 40 questions each, while Mathematics has 45 questions and English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning have 10 and 15 questions respectively.
  • The time allotted to complete BITSAT 2018 paper is 3 hours (without break)
  • All the questions are objective in nature or in other words – MCQs.
  • Each correct answer will be given 3 marks, each incorrect -1 and unattempted questions will be given zero or no marks.
  • If any candidate finishes answering all the 150 questions, then he/she can opt for 12 extra questions, 4 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), in case they still have time within the allotted 3 hours.
