ABOUT KVPY Fellowship Programme

The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” (KVPY) is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research.

This program aims to assist the students to realise their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is groomed for research and development in the country. Generous fellowship and contingency grant are provided to the selected KVPY fellows up to the pre Ph.D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier. In addition, summer camps for the KVPY Fellows are organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country.

The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the Government has entrusted the overall responsibility for organising and running the KVPY Program to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and set up a Management Committee and a National Advisory Committee (NAC) for overseeing its implementation. A core committee looks after both the day-to-day and academic aspects of the KVPY Program.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) completely funds KVPY-2017 by providing the selected students with monthly stipend and annual contingency grants given below:

Eligibility Criteria for KVPY-2017

Candidates applying for KVPY-2017 need to fulfill eligibility criteria for the fellowship programme. The KVPY eligibility criteria 2017 mentions academic conditions, marks required and age limit. Candidates must check eligibility criteria before proceeding to fill the KVPY-2017 application form. Check below conditions of eligibility for KVPY fellowship programme.

Candidates pursuing an undergraduate degree in Basic Sciences such as B.Sc. / B.S. /B. Stat. /B. Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. in different science subjects are only eligible to apply.

For KVPY-2017 Stream SA: Aspirants currently in XIth class with science subjects who have obtained minimum 75% marks in Maths and Science subjects in class 10th State/National Board qualifying exam are eligible for KVPY-2017.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD must have obtained 65% marks in aggregate of Mathematics & Science subjects.

For KVPY 2017 Stream SX: Candidates currently in Class 12 under (10+2) patterns should obtain 60% marks in the qualifying exam and 50% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Candidates who will be pursuing undergraduate programmes in basic sciences only are eligible for KVPY-2017. Candidates must have scored 75% marks in class 10 and for SC/ST/PwD candidates; the qualifying marks are 65% in aggregate of all science subjects and Mathematics.

For KVPY 2017 Stream SB: Candidates currently in the first year of Bachelor degree in Basic Sciences who had obtained 60% marks in 10+2 qualifying exam (50% for reserved categories) are eligible for KVPY-2017. Also, candidates need to obtain minimum 60% marks in first-year examination of Bachelor degree. However, for SC/ST/PwD candidates, the marks should be 50% or more.

Note: Candidates pursuing the undergraduate programme in distance mode from any University are not eligible to apply for KVPY-2017.

Application for KVPY-2017

• Application for KVPY-2017 must be done online only.
• There are three steps to complete your application successfully.
• Step 1. Registration.
• Step 2. Filling personal and academic details, choosing test centre and uploading photo, signature and other certificates as applicable.
• Step 3. Payment of application fees. Please note that you must pay the fees only at the KVPY application portal. This can be done either by using a credit card/ATM-Debit card/Net Banking or by downloading e-challan from the application portal. No other means of payment will be accepted. Once payment is successful and application submitted no refund will be done.
• The application fee for KVPY-2017 are as follows:
For General Category/OBC: Rs. 1000.
For SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 500.

NOTE: Applications are invited from Indian Nationals. However, as per the Interim Order (Final Order awaited) of the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka OCI/PIO students will be allowed to write the KVPY Aptitude Test 2017.

Selection Procedure KVPY-2017

Candidates who will appear for Aptitude Test and Interview will be selected for fellowship programme. Candidates need to meet the cutoff marks and eligibility criteria for KVPY 2017.

Once the final merit list of KVPY-2017 will be announced, the shortlisted candidates will be called for the award of fellowships. The KVPY fellowship will be provided to candidates till Ph.D level for only those candidates who will pursue studies in basic sciences as mentioned below:
• B.Sc./B.S./B. Statistics /B. Maths
• Integrated M.Sc.
• M.S. in Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Geophysics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Cell Biology, Ecology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Applied Physics, Materials Science or Environmental Science.
